Fish House Lodge of Sir William Johnson
Marker located in Fish House on the north side of County Route 110, across from the intersection with Route 109. It is one of several markers in this immediate vicinity installed in 1932 as suggested by Percy Orton, a local historian.
This marker directs you to the site of the hunting and fishing retreat of Sir William Johnson, which he built circa 1762, known as the ‘fish house.’ A community gradually grew up around the location known as Fish House, now in the Town of Northampton. Johnson’s original building in believed to have been destroyed during one of the raids in 1781.
