Kennyetto Creek
Located at Kenside Park on Saratoga Ave. in the Village of Broadalbin, where the road crosses the creek
This marker designates a place name given to the tributary that drains into the Great Sacandaga Lake. The creek’s name is derived from the Mohawk Indians, to whom “Kennyetto” meant “snake trying to swallow its tail.” The creek originates in Saratoga County and flows through the Town of Broadalbin into the Town of Mayfield. Prior to the flooding of the valley in 1930 to create the Sacandaga Reservoir, the creek continued it course through Mayfield and up the valley to join the Vlaie Creek flowing back into Saratoga County. The Kennyetto provided water power to run mills at several locations.
